Gudja United secured promotion to the Premier League after defeating Naxxar Lions 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in one of the four matches the BOV First Division on Sunday. Like Sirens, who were promoted earlier this week, this will be the first time Gudja United will be playing in the top division.
Dhonatan Santos da Hora put Gudja ahead on the 11th minute and Jackson Lima doubled the score thanks to a penalty on the 25th. Emerson Vella made it 3-0 on the half hour with Joel Ellul reducing the gap for Naxxar three minutes from the end of the first half.
On the other hand, Santa Lucia registered a 3-1 win over Vittoriosa Stars at the Centenary Stadium to move once again alone in third place. Kevin Ante Rosero put Santa Lucia ahead on the 12th minute and Luis Diego Mosquera Segura doubled the score six minutes from the end of the first half. Andreas Galea pulled one back for Vittoriosa on the 76th minute but Manuel Guillari made it 3-1 in added time.
Pembroke Athlete defeated leaders Sirens 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Kurt Borg put Pembroke ahead on the 14th and Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza sealed the issue with another goal five minutes from time.
At the Centenary Stadium, Swieqi United and Zejtun Corinthians shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
Sirens lead the way on 52 points, followed by Gudja on 49, Santa Lucia 39, Naxxar 36, Pembroke 35, Lija and Swieqi 34, Zebbug 33, Mqabba 31, Zejtun and Vittoriosa 27, Qrendi 23, San Gwann 19 and Marsa 5.
