Victoria Hotspurs were declared BOV Gozo Football League First Division champions following an impressive 7-2 win over Xewkija Tigers at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday.
The Hotspurs went three goals clear thanks to Elton da Silva on the 3rd and a brace by Henrique Maciel on the 12th and 32nd. Two minutes in the second half, Christian Bugeja reduced the gap for Xewkija but three minutes later, Christian Mercieca made it 4-1. Sergio Arturo Martinez Villa scored a second goal for Xewkija on the 53rd but Emiliano Lattes on the 84th and Elton da Silva on the 86th and 89th extended the lead for the Hotspurs.
In another match on Sunday, Nadur Youngsters defeated Kercem Ajax 6-0 thanks to Jefferson de Assis on the 5th minute, two own goals on the 15th and 26th and a Marcelo Barbosa hat-trick on the 61st, 65th and 77th.
On Thursday, SK Victoria Wanderers moved fifth thanks to a 6-2 win over Ghajnsielem. Naby Damba put the Blacks ahead on the 4th minute but a Predrag Djodjevic brace on the 18th and 22nd turned the score in favour of SKVW. Ryan Grech extended the lead on the 24th and although Naby Damba scored a second goal for Ghajnsielem on the 49th, Djordjevic made it 4-2 on the 51st before converting a penalty on the 62nd with Aud-Gustine James Obaje scoring a sixth goal on the 68th.
Gharb Rangers, on the other hand, defeated Munxar Falcons 4-1 in a clash between the two teams who were sharing the bottom spot. Nemanja Stojanovic opened the score for Gharb on the 26th but Adebayo Ademilua equalised on the 63rd. However a Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz hat-trick on the 73rd, 76th and 87th handed the Rangers the three points.
Meanwhile in the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Xaghra United move three points clear after Sannat Lions were defeated by St. Lawrence Spurs.
A Johnny Camilleri penalty on the 66th minute handed Xaghra United a narrow win over Qala Saints on Tuesday.
On Saturday, St. Lawrence Spurs defeated Sannat Lions 2-1. The usual Ebube Ralph Okpokwu converted a penalty on the 21st minute but Muda Fagbeja equalised on the 61st and Eric Portelli notched the winner three minutes in added time.
In another match on Tuesday, Zebbug Rovers earned a point in a 2-2 draw with Oratory Youths. Sintayehu Curmi put Oratory ahead on the 4th minute and Joseph Xerri doubled the score on the 65th. However a brace by Aaron Buttigieg on the 72nd and 74th restored equilibrium.
