Victoria Hotspurs through to FA Trophy second round

Three Third Division clubs and Gozitan champions Victoria Hotspurs qualified for the second round of the FA Trophy thanks to wins in matches from the first round on Saturday.

At the Kercem Ajax Stadium, a goal by Allan Fernandes Moreira handed Gharghur a narrow win over Sannat Lions.

In the next round, Gharghur will be facing Rabat Ajax.

In another match at the Kercem Ajax Stadium, Dingli Swallows beat Qala Saints 3-2.

Gianluca Theuma put Dingli ahead on the 11th minute and Daniel Cilia doubled the score on the 27th. Joseph Owen Borg reduced the gap for Qala on the 79th and a Frank Azzopardi penalty restored equilibrium on the 83rd. However Dylan Mercieca notched the winner four minutes from time.

Dingli take on Mqabba in the second round.

At the Sirens Stadium, Victoria Hotspurs defeated Siggiewi 4-0.

Henrique Maciel put the Hotspurs ahead on the 39th and Emiliano Lattes scored twice on the 43rd and 45th to hand them a comfortable lead by the end of the first half. Elton da Silva added another late in the game.

In the second round, Victoria Hotspurs will be facing Xaghra United or Ghajnsielem.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Ghaxaq defeated Mtarfa 2-0 courtesy of Clint Vassallo on the 16th and Jurgen Gerada on the 82nd.

Ghaxaq meet Mgarr United in the next round.
