Vittoriosa Stars registered their first win in the BOV First Division as they defeated neighbours St. George’s 5-2 in the derby at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
Renan Sgaria Farias opened the score on the 10th minute but St. George’s equalised three minutes later thanks to Leeroy Bonett. Farias made it 2-1 for Vittoriosa on the 16th and seven minutes later, Liam Gauci made it 3-1. Takumi Hiruma scored a second goal for St. George’s on the 67th but nine minutes later, veteran Kenneth Abela restored a two-goal lead for Vittoriosa. Three minutes in added time, Iro Curmi scored Vittoriosa’s fifth goal.
Meanwhile Lija Athletic maintained their perfect record thanks to a sixth consecutive win, beating Fgura United 3-2.
Erjon Beu opened the score for Lija on the 15th minute and although Sergio Hili equalised on the 21st, Erjon Beu restored the lead on the 32nd. Four minutes from the end of the first half, Kabelo Seakanyeng increased the lead. Three minutes from time, Alejandro Toncheff reduced the gap for Fgura.
Lija lead the way with 18 points, followed by Pieta on 13, Qrendi 11, St. Andrews and Naxxar 10, Zejtun 9, Zebbug 8, Swieqi, Pembroke and Qormi 7, St. George’s 5, Mqabba and Vittoriosa 4, Fgura 3.
