San Gwann, Lija through to third round

San Gwann and Lija Athletic were the first two teams to reach the third round of the FA Trophy as they emerged as winners in the two FA Trophy second round matches in programme on Friday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

In the first match, San Gwann defeated Marsa 2-0 in a clash between two Second Division sides. Christian Gauci put San Gwann ahead on the 25th and Owen Spiteri doubled the score two minutes from the end of the first half.

On the other hand, First Division leaders Lija Athletic registered a most comfortable 5-0 win over Qrendi. Clayton Giordimaina opened the score for Lija on the 20th and four minutes later, Erjon Beu made it 2-0. Harry Wood scored Lija’s third on the half-hour with Erjon Beu scoring two goals in the second half – on the 56th and 71st – to increase the lead further.
