Difficult Valletta test for Sirens

Sirens will be aiming for a win as they take on champions Valletta at the Hibernians Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme on Sunday.

The St. Paul’s Bay side are currently third on level points with Hamrun on the 16-point mark, three behind second-placed Gzira United and seven behind leaders Floriana and therefore a win is a must in order to keep the pace with the Greens and the Maroons. They won three out of the last four matches, defeating Balzan 4-2 last week.

However Valletta will be all out for the three points as a win would enable them to leapfrog Sirens and Hamrun into third place. In their last two outings, Valletta defeated Gudja 1-0 and Tarxien 3-1.

Steve Borg is ruled out for Valletta as he serves a one-match ban.

Meanwhile in the second match, kicking-off at 16:00, Hibernians host Sliema Wanderers.

An Imanol Iriberri brace enabled the Paolites to return to winning ways on Monday as they defeated Santa Lucia 2-0 and another win on Sunday would see them move into fourth place.

Sliema, on the other hand, are currently third from bottom on five points, having won just one game in the eight matches played so far. In their last three matches, they lost to Sirens, Senglea and Mosta.
