Zurrieq claimed three precious points thanks to a 2-1 win over second-placed Melita in one of the two matches from the BOV Second Division at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.

Karl Sacco opened the score on the 19th minute and Claudio Calleja converted a penalty on the 31st with Michael Cachia reducing the gap one minute from the end of the first half.

In another match, San Gwann defeated Kalkara United 3-0.

Owen Spiteri put San Gwann ahead on the 25th and Adam Falzon doubled the score on the half-hour. Christian Gauci sealed the issue with a third goal just before half-time.

Marsa lead the way with 15 points, followed by Melita on 14, Marsaxlokk and San Gwann 13, Mgarr and Zurrieq 10, Rabat 9, Birzebbuga 8, Kalkara 7, Mellieha 6, Xghajra 5, Luqa and Zabbar 4.
