Second win on the trot for ten-man Gudja

Despite playing for almost half an hour in ten men, Gudja United registered their second win in the BOV Premier League as they defeated bottom-placed Tarxien Rainbows 3-2 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Gudja, who were coming from a 3-2 win over Birkirkara on Monday, therefore registered their second win on the trot as they now move to the ten-point mark. On the other hand, for Tarxien, this was the tenth defeat in as many matches.

Gudja had a brilliant start taking the lead after just thirty seconds when Rundell Winchester stole the ball off a defender and advanced before hitting low past goalkeeper Rudy Briffa.

Tarxien levelled matters on the 26th minute thanks to a cross shot by Aleksa Andrejic which gave goalkeeper Jonathan Debono no chance.

Seven minutes in the second half, Aleksan Andrejic put the Rainbows 2-1 ahead with a diagonal shot which beat the Gudja goalkeeper.

To make matters worse for Gudja, Miguel Attard received a second yellow card on the 64th minute and was therefore sent off leaving his side in ten men.

However, Gudja restored equilibrium on the 75th minute when off a cross from the right by Alexandre Santana, Daniel Zerafa, in an attempt to clear the ball into safety, was unlucky to head the ball past Briffa for an own goal.

One minute in added time, Gudja notched the winner thanks to a Miguel Antonio Jimenez who placed the ball at the back of the net after an Anderson de Barros effort was partially saved by the Tarxien goalkeeper.
