Qrendi move top in the BOV First Division as they defeated Pieta’ Hotspurs 3-1 in one of the two matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
Jose Lucas Caetano da Silva put the Hotspurs ahead on the 14th minute but an own goal restored equilibrium seven minutes from the end of the first half. A brace by Alex Nilsson on the 70th and 89th handed Qrendi the three points.
In another match, Pembroke Athleta defeated Qormi 5-2.
Tensior Gusman gave Qormi the lead on the 16th minute but Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza equalised on the 39th. Gusman scored again for Qormi to make it 2-1 before the end of the first half. However during the second half, Pembroke scored four to turn the score in their favour courtesy of Luka Mijic on the 52nd, a Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza penalty on the 73rd, a Joao Pedro Oliveira Santos penalty on the 75th and Mattia Zarb on the 76th.
Qrendi lead the way with 20 points, followed by Lija on 19 points, Zejtun 18, Pieta’ and St. Andrews 17, Naxxar 16, Zebbug 14, Pembroke 13, Swieqi 11, Mqabba 10, Qormi and St. George’s 9, Fgura and Vittoriosa 7.
