Nadur Youngsters maintain five-point lead

Two programmes of matches from the BOV Gozo Football League First Division were played between Friday 14 and Thursday 20 due to the break for the Carnival celebrations.

Leaders Nadur Youngsters maintained a five-point lead over Xewkija Tigers with Victoria Hotspurs regaining third place after back-to-back defeats for Ghajnsielem. Gharb Rangers joined Xaghra United on the seven-point mark, three behind SK Victoria Wanderers as Kercem Ajax maintain a good cushion over the bottom three.

Nadur Youngsters defeated Ghajnsielem 4-1. The Youngsters enjoyed a narrow lead at the end of the first half thanks to Johan Alberto Castano on the 28th but goals by Stefan Cassar on the 52nd, Shaun Attard on the 67th and Brandon Said on the 75th increased the lead before the Blacks scored a consolation goal thanks to an Igor Nedeljkovic penalty on the 90th.

The leaders went on to defeat Kercem Ajax 2-0 courtesy of Emerson Marcelina on the 36th and Marcelo Barbosa on the 91st.

Xewkija Tigers registered two comfortable wins over Xaghra United and SK Victoria Wanderers. The Tigers defeated Xaghra 5-0 thanks to goals by Claudio Antunes Pavlidis on the 18th, a Johnny Camilleri hat-trick on the 32nd, 59th and 61st and Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior on the 48th. They went on to beat SK Victoria Wanderers 4-1. Jackson de Lima put Xewkija ahead on the 13th minute and Claudio Antunes Pavlidis doubled the score on the 37th. Michael Camilleri made it 3-0 five minute in the second half and although Njongo Priso pulled one back on the hour, Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior made it 4-1 two minutes from time.

Victoria Hotspurs defeated Gharb Rangers 5-0 courtesy of Christian Mercieca on the 11th, Henrique Maciel on the 41st, Emiliano Lattes on the 54th and 92nd and Christian Mercieca on the 62nd. They went on to defeat Xaghra United 5-1. Emiliano Lattes put the Hotspurs ahead on the 8th minute and after Luis Andre de Melo Lima had a penalty saved by the Hotspurs goalkeeper, Elton Alexandre da Silva doubled the score on the 18th. Goalkeeper Adrian Parnis was sent off for the Hotspurs and Xaghra pulled one back thanks to a Rodrigo Ost Dos Santos penalty on the 28th. However an own goal on the 63rd and a goal by Emiliano Lattes on the 68th put the Hotspurs 4-1 ahead. Xaghra had Savio Galea sent off and Francesco Marra increased the lead two minutes from time.

Kercem Ajax and SK Victoria Wanderers shared the spoils in a goalless draw. On the other hand, Gharb Rangers returned to winning ways as they beat Ghajnsielem 2-1. Joseph Grima put Gharb ahead just before the end of the first half, Daniel Bogdanovic converted a penalty to level matters but Olimpio Gabriel Fernandes made it 2-1 on the 65th.

Meanwhile in the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Sannat Lions extended the lead thanks to a 4-1 win over Sannat Lions. Goals by Joseph Zammit on the 11th minute and Ebube Ralph Okpokwu on the 22nd put Sannat two goals ahead and although Andrew Attard reduced the gap on the 28th, goals by Ebube Ralph Okpokwu on the 48th (penalty) and 78th handed them a 4-1 win.

On the other hand, Oratory Youths were held in a 2-2 draw by Munxar Falcons. Daniele Degennaro scored twice on the 8th and 24th to give Oratory a two-goal lead but a goal by Derek Paul Borg on the 54th and a Ayesller Carvalho penalty on the 65th earned Munxar a point.
