Leaders Lija Athletic move four points clear in the BOV First Division as they defeated St. George’s 2-0 in one of the two matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
Erjon Beu put Lija ahead on the 16th minute and Kabelo Seakanyeng doubled the score on the 37th.
In another match, Fgura United collected three precious points thanks to a 5-3 win over Mqabba.
Alejandro Toncheff opened the score for Fgura on the 8th minute and Dennis Cartella made it 2-0 on the 32nd. Paul Chimezie reduced the gap on the 53rd and Alexsandro Ferreira equalised in the 67th but Fgura regained the lead thanks to a goal by Sergio Hili on the 69th. A Paul Chimezie penalty restored equilibrium on the 71st minute but Giovanni Galea made it 4-3 for Fgura on the 83rd. An own goal deep into stoppage time sealed the issue for Kevin Vella’s side.
Lija lead the way with 36 points followed by Zejtun on 32, Qrendi 29, Naxxar 28, Pembroke 27, St. Andrews 26, Zebbug 24, Pieta’, Qormi and Swieqi 21, Fgura 19, Mqabba, St. George’s and Vittoriosa 16.
