After Italy was one of the worst affected countries in Europe by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Malta Football Association’s project of creating a professional football club to take part in the Italian Serie C organised by the Lega Pro has been delayed by one year.
While speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, MFA President Bjorn Vassallo said that the Council decided that the project should be delayed by one year, considering the current extraordinary situation with problems related to logistics and timing.
This means that the changes to regulations which were being proposed by the Professional Football Committee to help mitigate the impact of the professional club on domestic competitions will be introduced as from season 2021/22. Among other aspects, these regulations will deal with the number of foreign players and home-grown players in domestic competitions.
