Winning start for Xewkija, Ghajnsielem

Xewkija Tigers and Ghajnsielem registered wins in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division.

On Saturday, goals by Joel Xuereb on the 10th minute and Claudio Antunes Pavlidis five minutes from time handed the Tigers a 2-0 win over Xaghra United.

On the other hand, on Sunday, Ghajnsielem came from behind to beat Oratory Youths 4-1. Rafael Ledesma converted a penalty to put Oratory ahead on the 26th minute but seven minutes from the end of the first half, Igor Nedeljkovic equalised and Kenneth Mercieca made it 2-1 just before half-time. Five minutes in the second half, Mercieca increased the lead with Michael Bezzina adding another on the 64th.

Meanwhile in the Preliminary Round of the BOV GFA Cup, Sannat Lions defeated Qala Saints 2-1 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium on Saturday. Damon Hili gave Sannat the lead after just eight minutes and Milos Perisic doubled the score on the half-hour. Two minutes in the second half, Joseph Buhagiar pulled one back for Qala with Damon Hili missing the opportunity to restore a two-goal lead on the hour after having a penalty saved by the Qala goalkeeper.

In another match on Sunday, Aud-Gustine James Obaje was the hero for SK Victoria Wanderers as they defeated Kercem Ajax 4-1. Obaje converted a penalty on the 6th minute to put the Wanderers ahead and just before the second half, he doubled the score. Six minutes from time, Sam Harland made it 3-0 and although Samuel Saldanha converted a penalty on the 87th minute, deep into stoppage time, Obaje added another.
