BOV National Amateur League: Attard, Kirkop, Marsaskala and Rabat reach play-offs semi-finals

Attard, Kirkop United, Marsaskala and Rabat Ajax are the four semi-finalists of the BOV National Amateur League promotion play-offs after they emerged as winners in the four quarter-finals which were played on Saturday.

At the Luxol Stadium, Group C runners-up Attard defeated Xghajra Tornados, who had placed fourth in the same group, 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at the end of the ninety minutes and extra-time.

Bledi Alla put Attard ahead ten minutes in the second half but Owen Izuchukwu Anyaso equalised three minutes later. In the penalty shoot-out, Attard scored three through Jurgen Gauci, Nigel Spiteri and Jamie Delia and Xghajra two thanks to Miguel Grima and Neville Zerafa.

A goal by Adam Smeir six minutes from the end of the first half handed Rabat Ajax a narrow win over Msida St. Joseph in a clash between two teams from Group B. Msida had finished second and Rabat fourth.

At the Sirens Stadium, Kirkop United, who had placed third in Group C, came from behind to beat Zurrieq, who had placed second in Group A. Daniel Debono handed Zurrieq the lead one minute from the end of the first half but Kenneth Ekezie scored twice on the 59th and 75th to hand Kirkop a place in the semi-finals.

In the other quarter-final at the Sirens Stadium, Marsaskala – third placed in Group A – defeated Siggiewi – third placed in Group B – 2-1. Anthony Ewurum opened the score on the 15th minute and Nicholas Zammit made it 2-0 on the 32nd. Emmanuel Mbong pulled one back for Siggiewi three minutes from the end of the first half.

In the semi-finals, Attard take on Kirkop United and Rabat Ajax face Marsaskala.
