Mosta managed to beat Santa Lucia 3-2 in an entertaining clash at the Hibernians Stadium on Saturday.
This win puts them three points clear of Valletta, who, however, have a game in hand, and four ahead of Santa Lucia.
Mosta took the lead on the 31st minute thanks to Divine Naah who intercepted a back pass by a defender and advanced into the area before beating goalkeeper Montfort.
Two minutes in the second half, a Zachary Brincat effort was partially saved by the Santa Lucia goalkeeper but Divine Naah placed the ball at the back of the net off the rebound.
On the 51st minute, Santa Lucia reduced the gap when a shot by Augusto Rene Caseres was blocked by Tyrone Farrugia with Kevin Ante Rosero hitting home from close range off the rebound.
Santa Lucia levelled matters on the 74th with a Kevin Ante Rosero header off a cross by Leandro Motta from the left.
Two minutes later, Timothy Tabone Desira was unlucky to hit the upright with a powerful short from outside the area.
However, on the 79th, Mosta made it 3-2, courtesy of Michael Mifsud who beat Montfort with a shot in the low bottom corner when served by Zachary Brincat from the left.
