Marsaskala secured promotion to the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Gharghur in the BOV National Amateur League Promotion Decider at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday. The Promotion Decider put against each other the runners-up of the respective groups.
Fabrizio Zammit put Marsaskala ahead two minutes from the end of the first half and although Nicholas Formosa equalised on the 77th minute, Fabrizio Zammit notched the winner two minutes from time.
Despite the defeat, Gharghur still hold a chance of securing promotion as they enter the Promotion Play-Offs third round.
The Promotion Play-Offs kick-off on Sunday 3 with the two matches from Round 1 which put against each-other the teams in fourth place against the teams in fifth place in the other groups.
Kalkara United take on Mdina Knights at the Luxol Stadium, kick-off at 15:00 while Mtarfa face Msida St. Joseph at the Luxol Stadium, kick-off at 18:30.
The winner of Kalkara vs Mdina will face Zabbar St. Patrick on Saturday 9 at the Sirens Stadium, kick-off at 16:00 while the winner of Mtarfa vs Msida takes on Birzebbuga St. Peter’s on Saturday 9 at the Luxol Stadium, kick-off at 16:00.
The winners of these two matches will face each other in a decisive game with the winner facing Gharghur for a place in the Challenge League next season.
The Championship Decider Attard vs Zurrieq – winners of Groups A and B respectively, who have already secured promotion to the Challenge League – will be played either on April 9 or 10 but the date is yet to be confirmed.
