Kirkop United staged a brilliant comeback as they came back from two goals down to force extra-time and beat Gharghur 5-2 at the Centenary Stadium on Friday to secure a place in the Round of 16 of the National Amateur Cup.
Robert Ciantari put Gharghur ahead on the 34th and two minutes from the end of the first half, Jayden Aquilina converted a penalty to double the score. Two minutes from time, Quelin Micallef reduced the gap and three minutes in added time, Simone Lo Presti levelled matters. The game went into extra-time and Quielin Micallef put Kirkop ahead for the first time eleven minutes in the first half and three minutes later, Benjamin Battistino scored a fourth goal. Miguel Calleja scored Kirkop’s fifth one minute from the end of the second half of extra-time.
In the next round, Kirkop will be facing Mdina Knights.
