Naxxar Lions moved to just two points behind leaders Sliema Wanderers as they defeated Fgura United by the odd goal in five at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
Goals by Edson Cerqueira Farias after just one minute and Robinson Blandon Rendon on the 9th minute gave the impression that the Lions were heading towards a comfortable win but an Aroldo da Silva Arruda penalty on the 48th reduced the gap for Fgura who managed to equalise thanks to Samuel Buhagiar on the 66th. However three minutes in added time, Edson Cerqueira Farias notched the winner for Naxxar.
Nicholas Schembri notched a hat-trick as Attard claimed three important points in a 3-1 win over Mtarfa at the Centenary Stadium. Schembri scored on the 14th and doubled the score thanks to a penalty on the 64th. Kurt Zammit converted a penalty on the 87th for Mtarfa but Schembri added another three minutes in added time.
In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, San Gwann came from behind to defeat Mqabba 3-2. Following a goalless first half, an own goal put Mqabba ahead on the 46th and four minutes later, a penalty by Ronald Makalysten Melo Costa doubled the score. Matheus de Lucena Guariento converted a penalty for San Gwann on the 58th and in added time, they scored twice through Adam Falzon and Jesusemen Courage Omoruanzoje.
Sliema lead the way with 25 points, followed by Naxxar 22, Zejtun on 21, Fgura, Melita and Tarxien 17, Lija and Zurrieq 14, Attard and Swieqi 12, Marsa, San Gwann and St. Andrews 11, Mtarfa 8, Mqabba and Vittoriosa 7, Marsaskala 6 and Qrendi 5.
