Second half goals hand Valletta the three points

Valletta had to wait until the second half to score the goals which handed them a second successive win, defeating Zebbug Rangers 3-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

Valletta are now tenth on 12 points, one behind Marsaxlokk and three ahead of Sirens. Zebbug, on the other hand, continue to share the bottom spot with Pieta’ Hotspurs.

Zebbug went close to taking the lead on the 28th minute when off a Yanis Tonna freekick from the left, Charles Lokoli Ngoy’s close-range header hit the upright.  

Seven minutes later, off a Brandon Paiber corner, a header by Akpoveta hit crossbar and another header by Shaun Dimech was cleared off the goal line by Almir Soto.

Valletta took the lead on the 67th when off a Triston Caruana corner fro the left, Oke Akpoveta served Ulrich N’Nomo who tapped the ball home from close range.

Seven minutes later, the Citizens doubled the score when Oke Akpoveta won possession in midfield and advanced on the right before sending Kilian Bevis through and the latter slotted the ball past goalkeeper Jamie Azzopardi.

Ten minutes from time, Valletta scored the third goal courtesy of a penalty by Oke Akpoveta after he was brought down inside the area by Gaetano Gesualdi.
