Birkirkara, Marsaxlokk, Balzan and Gozitan sides Kercem Ajax and Qala Saints joined Hibernians and Sirens in the Round of 16 of the Izibet FA Trophy as they registered wins in matches from the Round of 32 on Saturday.
At the Centenary Stadium, Birkirkara defeated Gozitan side Nadur Youngsters 4-0.
Osvaldo Iorio put the Stripes ahead on 11 minutes and Yannick Yankam doubled the score four minutes from the end of the first half. Six minutes in the second half, Alex da Paixao Alves extended the lead with Kevin Tulimieri adding another on the 67th minute.
In the next round, Birkirkara will be facing Balzan.
Balzan, in fact, defeated Tarxien Rainbows 4-0 in another match at the Centenary Stadium.
Bogdan Mladenovic opened the score for Balzan on the 16th minute and four minutes later, Paul Fenech made it 2-0. Matheus Souza scored twice – on the 49th and on the hour – to seal the issue.
At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Gozitan side Kercem Ajax defeated Challenge League side Attard 8-2.
Two goals by Pablo Vinicius de Moraes Ferreira on the 6th and 7th handed Kercem a two-goal lead in the opening minutes. Bruno da Cruz made it 3-0 on the 13th and two minutes later, Andrew Mizzi scored Kercem’s fourth goal. Bledi Alla reduced the gap on the 38th but Bruno da Cruz made it 5-1 two minutes in the second half. Lydon Cuschieri scored a second goal for Attard on the 66th but Ognjen Rolovic scored Kercem’s sixth three minutes later. Eight minutes from time, Karl Formosa added another with Pablo Vinicius de Moraes Ferreira making it 8-2 two minutes later.
In the next round, Kercem will be facing Hibernians.
In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Gozitan side Qala Saints defeated Mtarfa from the Challenge League 2-1.
Nathan Chukwudi Njoku put Qala ahead on the 65th and although Joseph Jojo Ogunnupe equalised three minutes later, Ayesller Carvalho notched the winner three minutes from time.
In the next round Qala will be facing the winner of the clash between Gzira United and Sliema Wanderers.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Marsaxlokk found no difficulty in beating Zejtun Corinthians 5-0.
Tiago Adan Fonseca put Marsaxlokk ahead after just one minute and six minutes later, Santiago Adrian Ferraris doubled the score. Nine minutes in the second half, Santiago Fabian Moracci made it 3-0 and five minutes later, Kristian Keqi added another. Wellington Valentim de Sousa scored a fifth goal for Marsaxlokk seven minutes from time.
Marsaxlokk will be facing the winner of the clash between Floriana and Santa Lucia in the next round.
Round of 16 matches will be played on February 7, 8 and 9. The quarter-finals are scheduled for February 24-26, the semi-finals for April 25-26 and the final for April 30.
