Third win on the trot for Mosta keeps them close to Birkirkara

With a goal in each half, Mosta defeated Floriana 2-0 at the National Stadium on Sunday to keep the pace with Gzira United and Birkirkara as they moved back in fourth place.

This was the third successive win for the Blues and the fourth win in five matches. Floriana, on the other hand, have now gone four matches without a win as they suffered the third defeat in four matches.

However, the Greens were quite unlucky to hit the posts twice while Mosta had a penalty saved by Floriana goalkeeper Georgi Kitanov.

The Blues took the lead on the 45th minute when off a corner from the left, Jacob Akrong slotted the ball past Kitanov.

Nine minutes in the second half, Mosta were awarded a penalty after Emiliano Callegari pushed Zachary Brincat inside the area but from the penalty spot, Clayton Failla’s effort was blocked by the Floriana goalkeeper.

Jan Busuttil was unlucky to hit the upright with a first-timer on the 61st minute when served by Kemar Reid and eleven minutes later, Reid hit the crossbar with a powerful shot with the ball bouncing on the goal line before being saved by Akpan.

Seven minutes from time, Mosta doubled the score thanks to a powerful shot from outside the area by Glamour Eziefula Chibueze which ended in the bottom right corner.
