Futsal: Ta’ Xbiex defeat Swieqi in direct clash

Ta’ Xbiex obtained a precious 3-0 win over their direct rivals Swieqi United in another match from the Enemed Futsal Premier League.

The team led by Daniel Brincat had a brilliant start as they scored after 20 seconds and from there on, the Owls found it difficult apart from failing to convert a penalty. Karl Sciortino, Melvin Borg and Dylan Musu were Ta’ Xbiex’s scorers.

Referees: Clinton Cassar, Jude Amin Utulu, Stephen Vella.

Luxol St Andrews obtained their tenth win of the season although it turned out to be a harder game than expected, defeating Żurrieq 6-4.

The St Andrews side were always in front but they found a clinical Żurrieq side operating lethally on the counter to score in four occasions. All in all, this was an important win for Gabriel Dobre’s boys as they are now enjoying a six-point lead in the table.

Andy Mangion netted three goals with Mark Zammit, Vininho and Moises adding more goals to their tally. David Almeida de Ferreira, Jose Mario Mendes, Armando Gjepali and Boycho Marev scored for Zurrieq.

Referees: Andrea Naudi, Marco Orazio La Rosa, Francesco Demichele.

In the only match from the Enemed Challenger League, Marsaskala edged Fgura United 6-5 in a nail-biting clash.

Amir Ashtiyani was inspirational for the Sea-Southsiders as he netted a poker while Craig Pickard and Dylan Caruana were also on the mark. Fgura had Sebastian Nayar and Jose Angel Godar Pereira netting a brace with Idil Demicoli also putting his name on the score sheet.

Referees: Clinton Cassar, Francesco Demichele, Marco Orazio La Rosa.

Meanwhile Celino Alves was voted as the Enemed Futsal Player for the month of December.

Alves is no new face to local futsal although he even had some international experience in the top Spanish futsal league.

Alves started his career in Malta with Hibernians Futsal in 2014 and eventually moved to Luxol a year later. He is having some positive moments with the St Andrews side as he netted some vital goals last month to help his team move top of the Enemed Futsal Premier League table.

He was presented with the award by FMA President Mark Borg.
