Gzira United dropped two points in their battle to stay behind leaders Hamrun Spartans as they were held in a 1-1 draw by Floriana at the National Stadium on Saturday.
The Maroons, who were coming from four wins in four matches, are second on 42 points, ten behind Hamrun and four ahead of Birkirkara with the latter two facing each other on Sunday. Floriana, on the other hand, remain eighth, one point behind Gudja. Although this was definitely a positive result, they have now gone five matches without a win.
Floriana took the lead on the 5th minute when Gabriel Bohrer Mentz lost the ball to Kemar Reid on the right and the latter entered the area and beat goalkeeper Darijan Zarkov with a diagonal shot.
However, Gzira equalised on the 17th when off a cross by Toni Kolega from the left, Nikolai Muscat hit low with Jefferson de Assis hitting home from close range.
