Sliema Wanderers secured promotion to the BOV Premier League as they defeated Naxxar Lions 3-1 in a top-of-the-table clash from the BOV Challenge League Top 6 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.
Miguel D’Alessandro handed Sliema the lead on the 22nd and although Erikys Ferreira equalised on the 73rd, Lydon Micallef made it 2-1 on the 80th and Mohamed Abdulahi Awad sealed the issue with a third goal three minutes in added time.
In the Top 6, Sliema lead the way with 59 points followed by Naxxar on 48, Zejtun 37, Tarxien 33, Melita 30 and Zurrieq 29.
Meanwhile in the Play-Out, Qrendi registered an important win as they defeated Attard 4-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Suleiman Jalu put Qrendi ahead after just nine minutes and doubled the score on the 22nd. Claudio Antunes Pavlidis extended the lead on the 76th and although Nicholas Schembri converted a penalty on the 84th, Suleiman Jalu completed his hat-trick with a goal on the 89th.
Goals by Gilberto Martins Leite Carrara on the 57th and Jamie Scerri on the 72nd and 94th handed Swieqi United a 3-0 win over Marsa at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
On the other hand, Fgura United came from behind to defeat Mqabba 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Boubacar Kanta put Mqabba ahead on the 14th but a penalty by Marcelo Gabriel Alves da Silva four minutes from the end of the first half and a goal by Wellington Valentim de Souza on the 80th handed Fgura the three points.
In the Play-Out, Fgura and Swieqi lead the way with 34 points, followed by St. Andrews on 32, Lija 29, Marsa 27, Attard 26, Qrendi24, Mqabba 21, San Gwann 20, Marsaskala 19, Mtarfa 15 and Vittoriosa 14.
