BOV Challenge League: Zejtun move closer to securing third place

Zejtun Corinthians claimed another three important points in the race to secure the play-off spot as they came from behind to beat Zurrieq 4-1 in a match from the BOV Challenge League at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Mauro Bonnici put Zurrieq ahead on the 21st minute but Kenley Scerri equalised on the 59th and on the hour, Jesus Andres Yepez Morlets turned the score in favour of Zejtun. Late in the game, Zejtun scored another two goals thanks to Nick Ghio on the 88th and Jesus Yepez on the 92nd.

Leaders Sliema moved fourteen points clear as they beat Tarxien Rainbowsby the odd goal in five in another match at the Centenary Stadium.

Lydon Micallef handed Sliema the lead on the 41st but Darren Falzon equalised on the 61st. Lydon Micallef restored the lead on the 79th and two minutes later, Jean Carlos Cloth Goncalves made it 3-1 although Junior Conceicao Cabral reduced the gap thanks to a penalty two minutes from time.

Sliema lead the way with 62 points, followed by Naxxar on 48, Zejtun 41, Tarxien 36, Melita 31 and Zurrieq 29.

Meanwhile in the Play-Out, Fgura United were held in a 1-1 draw by San Gwann at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Marcelo Gabriel Alves da Silva put Fgura ahead one minute in the second half but five minutes later, Isaac Cutajar equalised.

On the other hand, St. Andrews defeated Attard 2-1. Santiago Martinez put the Saints ahead on the 16th and although Bledi Alla levelled matters, Wellington de Oliveira made it 2-1 one minute in the second half.

Fgura and St. Andrews lead the way with 35 points, followed by Swieqi on 34, Lija 29, Marsa 27, Attard 26, Qrendi and San Gwann 24, Mqabba 21, Marsaskala 20, Vittoriosa 17 and Mtarfa 16.
