Balzan beat Mosta to move third

Balzan bounced back from last week’s heavy defeat to champions Hamrun Spartans as they came from behind to defeat ten-man Mosta 3-2 in a direct clash for third place at the Centenary Stadium on Monday.

Oliver Spiteri’s side moves one point ahead of Gzira United and Hibernians and three ahead of Mosta.

Mosta took the lead on the 24th minute when Zachary Brincat sent Christ Ememe through and the latter served Dunace Bonnici who placed the ball inside the empty net.

Balzan levelled matters three minutes from the end of the first half when Precious Tenebe brought Angel Torres down inside the area; referee Matthew De Gabriele sent the Mosta player off and ordered a penalty which was converted by Bojan Kaljevic.

Mosta regained the lead on the 70th through a great volley by Clayton Failla which gave Jonathan Debono no chance.

However four minutes later, Angel Torres restored equilibrium thanks to a curling shot from the edge of the area which beat Akpan.

Another four minutes passed and Angel Torres beat the Mosta custodian with a fine angled shot to notch the winner.
