Tarxien Rainbows and Zejtun Corinthians both registered wins in the BOV Challenge League on Sunday in their battle to secure third place and the play-off spot against the team finishing third from bottom in the Premier League.
At the Centenary Stadium, Tarxien defeated Zurrieq 4-0 thanks to a brace by Juninho Cabral on the 7th and 75th and goals by Emmanuel Mbong on the 64th and Darren Falzon on the 89th.
On the other hand, Zejtun Corinthians defeated Melita 3-2. Clyde Borg put the Corinthians ahead on the 8th and two minutes later, David Xuereb doubled the score. Russell Fenech increased the lead three minutes in the second half but Melita reduced the gap thanks to Thomas Griscti on the 57th and Anderson De Barros (penalty) ten minutes later.
In the Play-Out, Attard came from behind to beat Marsa 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Paul Lapira put Marsa ahead on the 52nd but Yuto Morita scored on the 86th and the 90th to hand Attard the three points. A result which condemned Qrendi and Marsaskala to the National Amateur League.
On the other hand, Fgura United defeated St. Andrews 2-0 thanks to goals by Thomas Grech on the half hour and Dylan Caruana three minutes from the end of the first half.
In another match, Qrendi defeated Marsaskala 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Conor Borg put Qrendi ahead on the 16th. Adrian Carabott equalised on the 31st but goals by Claudio Antunes on the 49th and Suleiman Jalu six minutes later handed Qrendi the three points.
Swieqi lead the way with 47 points, followed by Fgura on 41, St. Andrews 39, Lija 36, Attard, Marsa and San Gwann 34, Qrendi 30, Marsaskala 28, Mqabba, Mtarfa and Vittoriosa 21.
