Sliema edge past Valletta to claim first three points

Newly-promoted Sliema Wanderers claimed their first three points as they defeated Valletta 1-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

The Wanderers therefore bounced back from the narrow defeat to Birkirkara while Valletta suffered their first defeat after beating Sirens in their first outing.

Sliema scored the all-important goal on the 62nd minute when off a cross by Neil Frendo from the right, Vito Plut anticipated goalkeeper Jake Galea with a header.

The Citizens were reduced to ten men nine minutes from time after Silas Alfred Hamanjoda received a second yellow card.
