BOV Challenge League: Zurrieq take sole leadership

Zurrieq took sole leadership in the BOV Challenge League as a goal by James Vella four minutes from the end of the first half handed them a narrow win over Swieqi United at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Zabbar St. Patrick dropped their first points as they were held in a goalless draw by Senglea Athletic in another match at the Centenary Stadium.

Fgura United moved third courtesy of a 1-0 win over Msida St. Joseph at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Nnadi Ofufu Ibeh scored the only goal on the 26th minute.

In another match, Marsa and Melita shared the spoils in an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Jean Pierre Attard put Melita ahead on the 41st minute and eight minutes in the second half, Karl Mohnani doubled the score. Tharcysio Henrique da Silva reduced the gap on the 57th and although Andre Carlos Penha da Costa made it 3-1 ten minutes from time, a minute later, Tharcysio scored again for Marsa with Wesley Dias Santos notching the equaliser five minutes in added time.

Zurrieq lead the way with 12 points, followed by Zabbar on 10, Fgura 9, Melita 8, Pieta’ and Lija 7, Marsa 6, Luqa, Senglea and Swieqi 4, Zejtun, Tarxien, St. Andrews, Attard and Zebbug 1 and Msida 0.
