Gzira United registered a second consecutive win as they defeated Sirens 1-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.
The Maroons join Sliema Wanderers and Birkirkara in sixth place on seven points, one behind Valletta while Sirens remain anchored at the bottom of the table together with Santa Lucia.
Thiago Espindola was unlucky to hit the woodwork early in the game but five minutes in the second half, the Brazilian managed to score the all important goal when he placed the ball at the back of the net following a good run and an assist by Lucas Ribeiro from the right.
Gzira could have sealed the issue on the 77th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Brooklyn Borg was brought down inside the area but Lucas Ribeiro’s effort ended off target.
The Maroons ended the game in ten men after Thiago Espindola received a second yellow card for a reckless tackle.
