Lija Athletic joined Melita in second place, one point behind leaders Zurrieq as they defeated Msida St. Joseph by the odd goal in five in a match from the BOV Challenge League at the Centenary Stadium on Wednesday.
Ronald Makalysten Melo Costa put Lija ahead on the 6th minute before two goals late in the first half thanks to Erjon Beu on the 39th and Leo Agius three minutes later handed Lija a comfortable lead. Tyrone Farrugia reduced the gap on the 48th with Mark Camilleri scoring another goal for Msida two minutes from time.
Senglea Athletic and Luqa St. Andrew’s shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Camilo Andres Sanchez Gonzales put Luqa ahead on the 11th but Christian Grech scored twice on the 55th and 68th to turn the score in Senglea’s favour. Sam Lorn Kind levelled matters for Luqa thirteen minutes from time.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Zebbug Rangers and Tarxien Rainbows earned a point each in a goalless draw.
Zurrieq lead the way with 12 points, followed by Melita and Lija on 11, Zabbar 10, Fgura and Marsa 9, Pieta’ and Luqa 8, Swieqi 7, Tarxien and Senglea 5, St. Andrews 4, Zebbug 2, Zejtun and Attard 1 and Msida 0.
