Hamrun Spartans face Valletta test

After dropping their first points in a draw with Sliema Wanderers, Hamrun Spartans face a tricky test as they take on Valletta in one of the three BOV Premier League matches in programme on Saturday at the Tony Bezzina Stadium and the Centenary Stadium.

Despite the draw, Hamrun still share the top spot with Floriana. Valletta, on the other hand, are currently fifth on eight points, five behind the leaders. They returned to winning ways last Sunday in the game against Marsaxlokk – a clash which marked the debut of Enzo Potenza as coach. They had earned five points from the previous four matches thanks to a win over Sirens and draws with Birkirkara and Mosta, losing to Sliema in the other game.

At the Centenary Stadium, Naxxar Lions take on Hibernians.

Naxxar’s morale is sky high following a 1-1 draw with leaders Floriana which enabled them to extend their positive run to three matches following the draw with Gzira and the comfortable win over Santa Lucia. In fact, just one point separates Naxxar and Hibernians as the Paolites suffered three defeats in their last three outings to Floriana, Birkirkara and Balzan, conceding five goals and scoring none. They had registered wins over Gzira and Santa Lucia in their first two outings.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Mosta take on Marsaxlokk.

After a rather slow start, in which they obtained just three draws from the first four matches, Mosta claimed three important points in a 2-0 win over Birkirkara and now share the ninth place with Hibernians. Marsaxlokk, on the other hand, suffered a first defeat to Valletta last week after maintaining a positive run in the first four matches, winning three and dropping points in a draw with Gudja.
