Zabbar St. Patrick are the new leaders of the BOV Challenge League while Fgura United and Marsa join Zurrieq in second place following the four matches on Saturday.
The Saints defeated Melita 4-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Samuel Buhagiar put Zabbar ahead eight minutes from the end of the first half. Matthew Ellul doubled the score three minutes in the second half and a brace by James Scicluna on the 58th and 65th sealed the issue.
Zurrieq suffered a second consecutive defeat as Fgura came from behind to win 4-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. A penalty by Francisco Ivan Sousa Flora put Zurrieq ahead on the 20th but Dylan Caruana equalised four minutes later and following the dismissal of the Zurrieq goalkeeper, Johan Alberto Castano converted a penalty to make it 2-1 for Fgura. Nnamdi Ofufu Ibeh scored twice on the 68th and 87th to secure victory.
Marsa defeated Lija Athletic 3-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium thanks to goals by Rodrigo Costa da Silva on the 5th, James Brincat on the 73rd and Augusto Rene Caseres on the 76th.
In another match, Swieqi United rescued a point in a 2-2 draw with Luqa St. Andrew’s at the Centenary Stadium. Camilo Andres Sanchez Gonzales handed Luqa a two-goal lead with goals on the 5th and 17th but Sylvester Siaw reduced the gap nine minutes in the second half and eleven minutes later, Ibrahim Salis levelled matters.
Zabbar lead the way with 13 points, followed by Marsa, Zurrieq and Fgura on 12, Melita and Lija 11, Luqa 9, Pieta’ and Swieqi 8, Tarxien and Senglea 5, St. Andrews, Zejtun and Attard 4, Zebbug 2 and Msida 0
