Sliema Wanderers joined Birkirkara and Marsaxlokk in third place in the BOV Premier League as they defeated neighbours Gzira United 1-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.
The Wanderers, in fact, move to four points behind second-placed Floriana and one ahead of Mosta and Balzan. Gzira, on the other hand, now share ninth place with Hibernians, three points behind the teams in third place.
Sliema scored the all-important goal one minute from time when off an assist by Gustavo Alcino, Mohamed Abdulahi Awad beat goalkeeper Darijan Zarkov with a shot from outside the area.
