IZIBET Amateur League: Qrendi join Rabat on top

Qrendi joined Rabat Ajax on top Group A of the IZIBET Amateur League as they defeated Xghajra Tornados 3-1 at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.

Nicolai Attard put Qrendi ahead two minutes from the end of the first half and Dario Borg doubled the score three minutes in the second half. Paul Simon Ellul reduced the gap for Xghajra three minutes later but three minutes in added time, Ross Mc Farland sealed the issue with a third goal.

Birzebbuga St. Peter’s returned to winning ways as they defeated Sta. Venera Lightnings 5-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Samuel Saldanha put Birzebbuga ahead on the 5th minute and goals by Ryan Sammut on the 23rd and Kyle Tanti a minute later handed them a comfortable lead before half-time. Saldanha scored again two minutes in the second half and after, Richmond Baratuipre Hanson pulled one back for the Lightnings, the Brazilian completed his hat-trick on the 74th.

Mqabba beat Siggiewi 2-0 at the Sirens Stadium thanks to goals by Andres Tenorio Viveros on the 39th and Dylan Zarb on the 61st while Kalkara United defeated Mdina Knights 2-0 at the Sirens Stadium thanks to a goal by Matthew Degiorgio on the 37th and an own goal one minute in added time.

On the other hand, Mellieha defeated Pembroke Athleta 3-1 at the Luxol Stadium. Alexander Akl put Mellieha ahead on the 38th and two minutes later, Jake Saliba doubled the score. Weverton Gomes pulled one back for Pembroke four minutes in the second half but Michael Camilleri made it 3-1 on the hour.

Qrendi and Rabat lead the way on 12 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 11, Mtarfa, Mqabba and Pembroke 9, Mellieha 7, Sta. Venera 6, Xghajra and Kalkara 4, Mdina 1 and Siggiewi 0.
