Naxxar Lions continue to impress as they scored twice in the second half to defeat Birkirkara 2-0 at the National Stadium on Sunday.
A win which enabled George Vella’s side to move sixth on 12 points, one point behind the three teams in third place and two ahead of the Stripes. For Birkirkara, this was the third defeat in four matches while Naxxar extend their positive run to six matches.
Birkirkara were unlucky not to take the lead on the 34th minute when Alex Satariano hit the upright following a cross by Adailton from the right.
However twelve minutes in the second half, Naxxar took the lead thanks to a powerful shot by Edson Cerqueira Farias from outside the area which gave goalkeeper Marcel Zapytowski no chance.
Five minutes from time, Naxxar sealed the issue with a second goal when off an assist by Edson Cerqueira Farias from the left, Marcilio Wiliam Moreira da Silva slotted the ball past the Birkirkara goalkeeper.
