Balzan joined Marsaxlokk, Hibernians, Sliema Wanderers and Birkirkara in third place on 13 points as they returned to winning ways, defeating Sirens 3-0 at the National Stadium on Saturday.
In fact, this was the first win in over five weeks after collecting just one point from the previous three matches, losing to Birkirkara and Naxxar and rescuing a point in a draw with Gudja. Sirens, on the other hand, remain anchored at the bottom of the table with just two points, three behind Gudja and four behind Santa Lucia.
Leonardo da Silva de Souza put Balzan ahead on the 16th minute when he received a cross and controlled the ball before hitting past the Sirens goalkeeper.
Just before the end of the first half, Paul Fenech doubled the score, beating Akpan with a perfect lob.
Six minutes in the second half, Balzan were awarded a penalty after Ryohei Michibuchi was brought down inside the area and Leonardo da Silva converted a penalty to seal the issue with a third goal.
