Joint-leaders Mtarfa and Qrendi moved four points clear in Group A of the IZIBET Amateur League as they both registered comfortable wins on Sunday.
Mtarfa defeated Mdina Knights 7-0. Kurt Borg opened the score on the 13th and Gianfranco Micallef doubled the scoring on the 28th with Kurt Borg adding another on the 36th. Gabriel Nazareno Mannino extended the lead on the 62nd with Kurt Borg completing his hat-trick a minute later. Mtarfa scored another two goals courtesy of Joao Pedro Ramos Coutada on the 78th and Owen Cassar on the 88th.
Brandon Bray scored four as Qrendi came from behind to beat Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 4-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Samuel Saldanha put the Saints ahead on the 20th but Bray scored twice on the 35th and 40th to turn the score in Qrendi’s favour. Bray converted a penalty on the 68th before adding another goal five minutes from time.
Pembroke Athleta moved third thanks to a 3-0 win over Siggiewi at the Charles Abela Stadium thanks to a brace by Ryan Sciberras on the 7th and 19th and Kyle Sciberras Balbi on the 40th.
Santa Venera Lightnings and Mellieha shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw at the Sirens Stadium. Luka Mijic put Mellieha ahead on the 4th but Jeremy Grixti equalised on the 12th and Richmond Baratuipre Hanson made it 2-1 for the Lightnings three minutes later. Jack Vella levelled matters for Mellieha on the 17th but Matthias Vella restored the lead for Santa Venera. four minutes later. However, an own goal on the 58th restored equilibrium for Mellieha.
In another match, Kalkara United and Xghajra Tornados shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Charles Abela Stadium.
Mtarf and Qrendi lead the way with 19 points, followed by Pembroke on 15, Rabat 14, Sta. Venera 13, Birzebbuga and Mqabba 12, Xghajra 11, Mellieha and Kalkara 8, Siggiewi 4 and Mdina 1.
