Marsaxlokk re-joined Sliema Wanderers in third place, one point behind Hamrun Spartans, who however have a game in hand, as they defeated Santa Lucia 3-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
The Southseasiders registered their third win in four matches. Santa Lucia, on the other hand, failed to extend their positive run which saw them earn four points from the last two matches.
It took Marsaxlokk just four minutes to take the lead when Fernando Gomes concluded a good move with a powerful shot from outside the area which gave goalkeeper Celio no chance.
Duane Bonnici doubled the score on the 59th when he received an assist by Yuri Messias on the left and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Celio.
Sunday Akinbule made it 3-0 on the 75th, hitting home from close range following a cross by Jacob Walker from the right.
