Joint-leaders Mtarfa and Qrendi moved seven points clear in Group A of the IZIBET Amateur League as both registered wins on Saturday.
At the Sirens Stadium, Mtarfa beat Pembroke Athleta 8-1. Kurt Borg handed Mtarfa a three-goal lead as he scored on the 15th, 19th and 26th. Gianfranco Micallef scored on the 33rd and 41st with Saturday Nanapere leaving his mark on the 35th as Mtarfa went in for half-time, leading 6-0. Kurt Borg added another on the 75th and although Weverton Gomes scored on the 76th, Gianfranco Micallef scored another on the 88th.
Qrendi defeated Mdina Knights 3-1 in another match at the Sirens Stadium. Dario Borg put Qrendi ahead after just two minutes and Aud-Gustine James Obaje doubled the score on the 37th. Borg added another on the 72nd with Chris Saliba reducing the gap six minutes from time.
Mellieha defeated Siggiewi 4-0 thanks to goals by Edafe Uzeh on the 2nd, Andie Sammut on the 3rd, Malcolm Vella Vidal on the 10th and Luka Mijic on the 35th at the Luxol Stadium.
On the other hand, Kalkara United and Sta. Venera Lightnings shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Darren Darmanin put Kalkara ahead on the 26th but Matthias Vella equalised one minute later. Kalkara regained the lead through Thomas Grima on the 57th but Richmond Baratuipre Hanson converted a penalty four minutes from time to level matters.
Mtarfa and Qrendi lead the way with 22 points, followed by Birzebbuga and Pembroke on 15, Rabat, Xghajra and Sta. Venera 14, Mqabba 12, Mellieha 11, Kalkara 9, Siggiewi 4 and Mdina 1.
