BOV Challenge League: Melita, Fgura share spoils in eight-goal thriller

Zabbar St. Patrick retained sole leadership in the BOV Challenge League as Melita and Fgura United shared the spoils in a 4-4 draw at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Johan Alberto Castano converted a penalty to put Fgura ahead but Andre Carlos Penha da Costa equalised on the half-hour and the same player scored again to put Melita ahead four minutes from the end of the first half. Five minutes in the second half, Castano levelled matters for Fgura and Ryan Caruana made it 3-2 nine minutes later. Andre Carlos completed his hat-trick to equalise on the 73rd but three minutes in added time, Fgura regained the lead through Nnamdi Ofufu Ibeh. However six minutes in added time, Andre Carlos scored again for Melita to make it 4-4.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Pieta’ Hotspurs moved fourth thanks to a narrow win over Tarxien Rainbows courtesy of Kurt Briffa on the 27th.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Lija Athletic defeated Attard in the derby by the odd goal in five. Camilo del Castillo Escobar put Attard ahead on the 6th minute but Leon Muscat equalised on the hour and six minutes later, Miguel Micallef made it 2-1. Glending Farrugia levelled matters for Attard eight minutes from time but Gianluca Falzon made it 3-2 on the 90th.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Luqa St. Andrew’s came back from two goals down to rescue a point in a 2-2 draw with St. Andrews. Clyde Cumbo scored twice on the 8th and 22nd but Collins Gyamfi scored twice on the 63rd and 90th.

Zabbar lead the way with 26 points, followed by Melita on 24, Fgura 22, Pieta’ 21, Zurrieq 20, Marsa and Senglea 19, Lija 17, Swieqi 16, Tarxien and Zejtun 12, Luqa 10, Zebbug 8, Msida 6, Attard and St. Andrews 5.
