IZIBET FA Trophy: Comfortable win for Valletta over Ghajnsielem

Valletta defeated Gozitan First Division side Ghajnsielem 7-1 at the Centenary Stadium in a match from the Round of 32 of the IZIBET FA Trophy on Sunday.

Brandon Paiber put Valletta ahead on the 19th and four minutes from the end of the first half, Federico Falcone doubled the score. Falcone extended the lead three minutes in the second half and although Godwin Emmanuel reduced the gap a minute later, Falcone scored again on the 54th. Zak Barbara made it 5-1 on the 76th before Klose Azzopardi Conti scored twice on the 80th and 83rd.

The Citizens will be meeting Mosta in the next stage.

Hibernians beat Qala Saints 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium courtesy of a Jurgen Degabriele penalty on the 56th and Giannis Bastianos on the 77th.

The Paolites take on the winner of the remaining Round of 32 clash between Gzira United and Fgura United.

At the Gozo Stadium, Sirens managed to beat Nadur Youngstgers 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at the end of the ninety minutes and extra-time.

Marcelo Junior Barbosa converted a penalty to put Nadur ahead on the 31st but Bismark Asare equalised on the hour.

In the penalty shoot-out, Joao Vitor De Oliveira Florencio, Joseph Mario Vella and Marcelo Pereira Muniz scored for Nadur with Stefan Cassar and Ian Xuereb missing their penalties. On the other hand, Kwasi Donsu, Sacha Borg, Daniel Agius and Mohammed Akadom Hafiz scored Sirens’ penalties with Bismark Asare missing the only one for Steve D’Amato’s side.

The St. Paul’s Bay side face holders Birkirkara in the Round of 16.

In another match at the Gozo Stadium, a Gianluca Zammit hat-trick on the 14th, 29th and 39th handed Gudja United a 3-0 win over Xewkija Tigers.

Gudja meet Hamrun Spartans in the Round of 32.

At the Centenary Stadium, Balzan defeated Challenge League side Zurrieq 2-1.

Jake Grech handed Balzan the lead seven minutes in the second half and Manyluak Aguek doubled the score on the 79th. Christopher Mario Baker reduced the gap three minutes from time.

In the Round of 32, Balzan face Sliema.

Sliema Wanderers beat National Amateur League side Marsaskala 3-0 at the Centenary Stadium thanks to a brace by Mohamed Abdulahi Awad on the 10th and the 40th and a Joseph Minala penalty on the 26th.

In a match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Swieqi United beat Luqa St. Andrew’s 2-1 in a clash between two Challenge League sides.

Nicholas Pisani put Swieqi ahead on the 63rd and thirteen minutes later, Federico Vasilchik doubled the score. Chibuzor Lucky Nwaogu pulled one back on the 90th.

Swieqi face Marsaxlokk in the next round.

The Round of 16 will be played on February 6-8, the Quarter Finals on March 30 and April 1, the Semi Finals on May 11 and 12 and the Final on May 18.
