Senglea Athletic made an important statement of intent in their bid to secure a place in the top six in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Melita 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
Terence Vella opened the score on the 20th and Issaka Alilu sealed the issue with a second goal on the 65th.
At the Centenary Stadium, Attard and Zejtun Corinthians shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Tharcysio Henrique da Silva put Zejtun ahead six minutes from the end of the first half but Jake Micallef equalised eleven minutes in the second half.
Swieqi United came from behind to beat Fgura United 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Dylan Caruana handed Fgura the lead after just six minutes but Swieqi scored three in the final thirty minutes thanks to a brace by Blessing Brafo on the 60th and 89th and Paulo Vyctor Bento do Vale on the 81st.
Luqa St. Andrew’s registered a fine 4-2 win over Tarxien Rainbows at the Centenary Stadium. Alan Abdel Rahman put Luqa ahead after just four minutes and Emmanuel Bio doubled the score on the 26th. Abdel Rahman added another eight minutes from the end of the first half and two minutes in the second half, Collins Gyamfi increased the lead. Tarxien reduced the gap thanks to goals by Jean Carlos Cloth Goncalves on the 50th and Gabriel Aquilina on the 61st.
Zabbar lead the way with 29 points, followed by Melita on 27, Pieta’ 24, Senglea, Fgura and Zurrieq 23, Lija 20, Marsa and Swieqi 19, Tarxien 15, Zejtun and Luqa 13, Zebbug 9, Attard 7, Msida 6 and St. Andrews 5.
