BOV Challenge League: Marsa stun leaders Zabbar

Leaders Zabbar St. Patrick failed to take advantage of Melita’s defeat to Senglea Athletic as they suffered a 1-4 defeat to Marsa at the Centenary Stadium in one of the four BOV Challenge League matches in programme on Sunday.

Sheldon Mizzi put Marsa ahead after just one minute and although Brian Ariel Gambarte equalised on the 10th, Aroldo da Silva Arruda scored twice on the 29th and 36th to hand Marsa a comfortable lead. Dylan Agius converted a penalty on the hour to seal the issue.

A goal by Christopher Mario Baker three minutes in the second half handed Zurrieq a narrow win over Msida St. Joseph at the Victor Tedesco Stadium while at the Centenary Stadium, St. Andrews returned to winning ways as they defeated Pieta’ Hotspurs 1-0 courtesy of a Brayan Samuel Nyetam Junior goal four minutes from time.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Lija Athletic rescued a point in a 1-1 draw with Zebbug Rangers thanks to a goal on the 93rd minute by Takumu Nishihara after Duvan Mosquera Torres had put Zebbug ahead on the 27th.

Zabbar lead the way with 29 points, followed by Melita on 27, Zurrieq 26, Pieta’ 24, Senglea and Fgura 23, Marsa 22, Lija 21, Swieqi 19, Tarxien 15, Zejtun and Luqa 13, Zebbug 10, St. Andrews 8, Attard 7 and Msida 6.
