In the second round of Top Four games, Birkirkara managed to peg back Swieqi United and keep their four-point lead in the Assikura Women’s League after the two teams cancelled each other out last Thursday.
The Owls, who are now unbeaten in three league games against Birkirkara this season, managed to forge ahead through a Karima Abdulai’s header from close-range.
Their joy was cut short when Birkirkara levelled terms through Marta Grosso on the hour mark.
Both Abdulai and Grosso are level on 14 goals in the league’s scoring charts.
In the upcoming slate of fixtures, Jose Borg’s Birkirkara face Hibernians while Swieqi cross swords with Mġarr.

In the Bottom Four section, Lija Athletic stunned San Ġwann to lift themselves to 10 points, trailing last weekend’s opponents by just three.
Leanne Micallef put Lija ahead before Tourki Chaimaa levelled terms for San Ġwann.
Nonetheless, Jethron Azzopardi’s Lija scored two more goals through Vanessa Carneiro and Sarah Caruana to secure the win.
Winter signing Reham Mellah made her debut for San Ġwann while Lija handed a first start to Ylenia Azzopardi, who joined on loan from Birkirkara.
Meanwhile, Valletta cemented their top spot in this section with a five-goal performance against Mtarfa.
Winger Sarah Vella Barberi scored a brace while Ylenia Grech, Anna Aloisio and Suzanne Farrugia Sacco wrapped up Valletta’s win.
