Qrendi kept the pace with leaders Mtarfa in Group A of the IZIBET Amateur League as they defeated Siggiewi 4-1 at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.
Brandon Bray gave Qrendi an early lead after just six minutes and doubled the score five minutes from the end of the first half. Miguel Ciantar extended the lead seven minutes in the second half and although John Paul Delia reduced the gap for Siggiewi on the 73rd, Brandon Bray completed his hat-trick ten minutes from time.
Mellieha registered an important 3-2 win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s at the Sirens Stadium to move joint-sixth with Pembroke, one point behind Rabat and Xghajra. Luka Mijic put Mellieha ahead on the 4th minute but Keith Muscat equalised on the 15th and Cedric Zahra made it 2-1 on the 33rd. Luka Mijic restored equilibrium thirteen minutes in the second half and one minute from time, Alexander Akl notched the winner for Mellieha.
A brace by Weverton Gomes – a goal on the 5th and a penalty on the 34th – handed Pembroke Athleta a 2-0 win over Mdina Knights at the Sirens Stadium.
In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Santa Venera Lightnings stunned Rabat Ajax, beating them 3-1. Jeremy Grixti put the Lightnings ahead six minutes in the second half and although Kurt Muscat equalised on the 70th, Richmond Baratuipre Hanson scored twice on the 80th and 93rd to hand Marco Grech’s side the three points.
In another match, Mqabba defeated Kalkara United 1-0 thanks to a goal by Andres Tenorio Viveros on the 50th.
Mtarfa lead the way with 37 points, followed by Qrendi on 34, Birzebbuga 37, Rabat and Xghajra 21, Mellieha and Pembroke 20, Mqabba 19, Sa. Venera 17, Kalkara 12, Siggiewi 11 and Mdina 1.
