IZIBET Amateur League: Mgarr join Qormi on top in Group B as Xghajra stun Qrendi in Group A

Despite still having a game in hand, Mgarr United joined Qormi on top of Group B of the IZIBET Amateur League as they defeated Ta’ Xbiex 9-0 at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.

Maximilian Borg Bartolo put Mgarr ahead ont he 5th and four minutes later, Jurgen Suda doubled the score. Gordon Saliba made it 3-0 on the 13th and five minutes later, Chrisrtian Ebisindor Saint scored a fourth goal. Seven minutes from the end of the first half, Jurgen Suda scored Mgarr’s fifth. Nicholas Schembri extended the lead on the 52nd with Liam Portelli scoring twice on the 61st and 80th and Gordon Saliba adding another on the 77th.

Marsaskala defeated Kirkop United 2-0 in another match at the Luxol Stadium thanks to goals by Fabrizio Zammit on the 36th and Isaac Abela four minutes from time.

At the Sirens Stadium, Gharghur beat Ghaxaq 2-1. Samuel Agius opened the score just before the end of the first half but although Rio Micallef equalised on the 71st, Mark Cutajar made it 2-1 on the 92nd.

Mgarr and Qormi lead the way with 31 points, followed by Marsaskala on 30, San Gwann and Gharghur on 25, Vittoriosa 23, St. George’s 21, Kirkop 20, Dingli 7, Ghaxaq and Ta’ Xbiex 6.

Meanwhile Xghajra Tornados surprised Qrendi in Group A, beating them 2-1. Following a goalless first half, Larson Mallia put Xghajra ahead on the 55th and Kenneth Abela doubled the score eight minutes later. Aud-Gustine James Obaje pulled one back on the 70th.

Mtarfa lead the way with 40 points, followed by Qrendi on 34, Birzebbuga 30, Xghajra 27, Rabat 24, Mellieha 23, Mqabba 22, Pembroke 20, Sta. Venera 17, Kalkara 12, Siggiewi 11 and Mdina 1.
