Women’s Under-17 national team hosts Northern Ireland, Luxembourg in UEFA Championship qualifiers

The Malta Women’s Under-17 national team will be hosting Northern Ireland and Luxembourg between Wednesday 21 and Tuesday 27 in the Group B5 of the UEFA European Women’s Under-17 Championship Round 2.

Malta plays Northern Ireland on Wednesday and Luxembourg on Tuesday. Northern Ireland face Luxembourg on Saturday. All matches will be played at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 11:00.

On Monday, Malta Women’s Under-17 Coach Vince Galea announced his final squad list ahead of these qualifiers.

A 20-player selection containing one foreign-based, Lexine Farrugia who plays for Sampdoria in Italy.

Swieqi United is the club most represented in this call-up with a total of six players selected, they are followed by Hibernians and Birkirkara both with four players each.

In Round 1 last October, Malta defeated Luxembourg 2-1 but lost 0-8 to Croatia and 1-4 to Azerbaijan.

Defenders – Ilona Abela (Swieqi United FC), Ylenia Azzopardi (Lija Athletic FC), Leanne Frendo (Swieqi United FC), Amber Galea (Hibernians FC), Aisha Micallef (Swieqi United FC), Thea Ida Scicluna (Swieqi United FC).

Midfielders – Francesca Bartolo (Valletta FC), Lisa Calleja (no club), Stella Cecilla Francalanza (Birkirkara FC), Ema Micallef (Swieqi United FC), Thais Muscat (San Ġwann FC), Amelia Vassallo (Birkirkara FC).

Offensive Players – Nyorah Celeste Hibernians FC), Lexine Farrugia (U.C Sampdoria), Suzanne Farrugia Sacco (Valletta FC), Maia Gauci (Birkirkara FC), Kaysia Micallef (Swieqi United FC), Sara Saliba (Birkirkara FC).
