IZIBET Amateur League: Weverton Gomes scores five in impressive win for Pembroke

Weverton Gomes scored five goals as Pembroke Athleta registered a most impressive 8-3 win over Kalkara United in a match from Group A of the IZIBET Amateur League at the Charles Abela Stadium on Saturday.

Jordan Vella put Pembroke ahead on the 6th minute and within two minutes Weverton Gomes scored twice to make it 3-0. Thomas Grima reduced the gap for Kalkara on the 19th but the Brazilian converted a penalty on the 22nd and three minutes later, Sasha Peric made it 5-1. However on the 31st, Weverton Gomes scored Pembroke’s sixth. Seven minutes in the second half, Aaron Hili converted a penalty for Kalkara and eleven minutes later, Thomas Grima scored a third goal for Kalkara. However goals by Maverick Cassar on the 69th and Weverton Gomes on the 76th increased the lead further.

Xghajra Tornados claimed three important points in a 2-0 win over Mellieha at the Sirens Stadium thanks to goals by Larson Borg on the 35th and Ginel Ronde on the 84th.

Richmond Baratuipre Hanson notched a hat-trick as Sta. Venera Lightnings defeated Mdina Knights 4-0 at the Sirens Stadium. Hanson scored on the 15th and 19th to give the Lightnings a two-goal lead. Jeremy Grixti made it 3-0 on the 25th with Hanson completing his hat-trick on the 64th.

Mtarfa lead the way with 46 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 36, Qrendi 35, Xghajra 30, Mellieha 26, Rabat and Mqabba 25, Pembroke 23, Sta. Venera 20, Kalkara 15, Siggiewi 11 and Mdina 1.

Meanwhile in Group B, Mgarr United moved three points clear thanks to a 3-0 win over Dingli Swallows at the Charles Abela Stadium. Kyle Frendo opened the score on the 12th, Nicholas Schembri made it 2-0 on the 35th and Jurgen Suda scored a third goal one minute from the end of the first half. Suda added another ten minutes in the second half.

Mgarr lead the way with 34 points, followed by Qormi on 31, Marsaskala on 30, San Gwann and Gharghur on 25, Vittoriosa 23, St. George’s 21, Kirkop 20, Dingli 7, Ghaxaq and Ta’ Xbiex 6.
