Balzan earned another important point in the battle against relegation following a 1-1 draw with Birkirkara at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.
This draw puts Oliver Spiteri’s side just two points behind seventh-placed Gzira and Naxxar although the Maroons have a game in hand. Birkirkara, on the other hand, join Marsaxlokk in fourth place but the Southseasiders take on Mosta on Sunday.
Balzan managed to take the lead two minutes from the end of the first half when Olivier Rommens who served Jan Busuttil and the former Floriana forward controlled the ball well on the right before beating goalkeeper Marcel Zapytowski with a rising shot from just inside the area.
However thirteen minutes in the second half, Birkirkara levelled matters thanks to a well-taken freekick by Andrei Ciolacu. which beat goalkeeper Rudy Briffa.
